Fire destroys Cumberland House hall built in 1892

A piece of Saskatchewan history was lost on Canada Day. On July 1, RCMP were called to a fire at Parish Hall on Cumberland House Cree Nation. The hall is one of the community’s oldest buildings, dating back to 1892. RCMP said detachment members and fire crews found the building partially engulfed in flames and smoke. The fire then advanced quickly and attempts to extinguish it were unsuccessful. Crews redirected their efforts to keep the fire from spreading. The building was a total loss. No injuries were reported and no other buildings were damaged. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
